Calydon, alternatively called Artemis' Revenge, is a mission found in Zeus: Master of Olympus.

Briefing[]

Life has been tough on Artemis lately. First, her beloved Kernyeian Hind, a majestic stag, was wounded by Hercules who was trying to capture the animal. Then, the people in and around the region of Calydon refused to worship her properly. The depressed Artemis turned to her menagerie of animals for solace and, when she saw her mighty boar, snorting and snarling in his pen, her eyes lit up, and a small smile played across her face...

Goals[]

  • Slay a Monster (Calydonian Boar)
  • Sanctuary to Hermes
  • Yearly Profit of 500
  • 8 pieces of Sculpture for parent city

Summary[]

In this colony mission, you will be developing a city that can supply Argos with wine and grapes for its elite housing districts.

The mission will begin peaceful, but it does not stay that way for long. In the lull period you have for the first 3 game years, you must develop all the needed industries to support the requirements of summoning Theseus to the city, as he is the only hero capable of killing the Calydonian Boar. The requirements for summoning Theseus are:

  • Hall must be placed near Palace
  • Theseus' Hall is in a good appeal area
  • The hall is surrounded by walls
  • 32 marble
  • 16 amphorae of wine

Once the Boar shows up, you have to perform damage limitation, as it will be quite happy to stroll straight into your city and wreck it over and over again, making it much tougher to get Theseus in, especially as he requires marble and wine in storehouses.

To acquire Sculpture, you will need to trade with Mt. Pelion in the north. This trade route is repeatedly opened and closed throughout the mission, so while the route is open, import as much sculpture as you can. To help in completing the mission, sculpture prices will decrease, making it less of a drain on your funds. You can compensate the money drain on all your needed imports by selling wine in large amounts to trading partners, especially Mt. Pelion. The Grove of Dionysus can help immensely in this effort.

Once the Boar is defeated, the other goals are fairly easy to reach. Just keep selling wine and you will eventually reach the target. Don't forget the sculpture!
