Thebes, alternatively called The Pretender to the Throne, is a mission found in Zeus: Master of Olympus. It is the last mission of the Zeus and Europa adventure.

Briefing[]

The dastardly Polynices of Orchomenos, exiled from Thebes, has stolen the Robe and Necklace of Harmonia! The double-crosser has claimed the throne of Thebes, and promised Adrastus of Argos and Tydeus of Calydon these and other spoils if they help him take your city. You must defeat these villains to keep what's rightfully yours. Meanwhile, Hephaestus, the lame god, has caught his wife, Aphrodite, in a forbidden embrace with Ares. Slowly, Hephaestus has put two and two together and finally understood why Ares and Aphrodite had both been so proud of Harmonia at her wedding, and why the gorgeous goddess of the tender passions thought it necessary to spend nine months at a beauty spa some twenty years ago. Hotter than the metals that he pounds in his forge, Hephaestus has decided to destroy all that Ares holds dear, whether it be a mortal, a monster or a city!

Goals[]

  • Rule Calydon
  • Rule Argos
  • Rule Orchomenos
  • 4 Sanctuaries
  • 100 People in Estate or Better

Summary[]

This is it, the last mission of the Zeus and Europa adventure! All you need to do is quash the rebellious Orchomenos and bring Argos and Calydon back to your side.

Most of the trading issues over the last couple of missions will now have been resolved, so Mount Pelion should immediately be reopened to import bronze to reduce the strain on Cilicia. You should also restore some of your previous trading partners that you would have had to have shelved due to limited trading opportunity as a result of the Maenad attacks previously.

The last sanctuary can be to one of the two remainder sanctuaries you haven't built: at this point, you will probably not even need the assistance of Demeter for food, as there is far more than enough wheat available here to meet the needed requirements. You should easily meet the estates requirement goal, as a result of earlier build up of your military.

Once the remaining sanctuary and your military has been developed, go and conquer your enemies! It is recommended to restore trade relations with Calydon first, as they buy your excess marble. Orchomenos is not particularly useful to you, so you may even want to conquer them first: it does not particularly matter which way you conquer the cities.

There will be a few invasions from your enemies, but you don't need to waste time fighting them: you'll have far more than enough cash in your coffers to just bribe them off, which saves your previous troops for conquering cities. From time to time, Hephaestus will attack the city, but if your Sanctuary to Aphrodite is operational, the goddess of beauty will prevent him from being a threat.

Once all the cities have fallen in line, the adventure is over!
